The acai berry has a long history of everyday medical use of the acai berry. In Brazilian herbal medicine, the fruits oil has been and is used to treat diarrhea which is common in tropical destinations. By infusing the root it is also used to treat jaundice and to build blood levels. An infusion of fruit rind grate is used as topical medicine against gastro internal disorders such as ulcers. Fruit seeds are crushed and infused for relief against fever. A high concentration decoction is used against other dangerous diseases such as jaundice, malaria and hepatitis. It has also traditionally been used against liver and kidney disease and all kinds of pain as a pain reliever.

In recent years some independent, in regards to the medical industry, researchers have intensified the research and found many provable benefits of the fruit as a medical agent. It is now even considered to use some form of the acai berry’s fruit juice as a natural contrast color to use in MRI and CT scans, although this remains in experimental stage.
