FTC strikes new blow in battle against Acai Berry Scams

The following news release was posted on the FTC website yesterday. It’s a much anticipated and necessary blow (although very late) in the battle against the plethora of Acai Berry Scams that have been preying on desperate consumers for nearly 2 years now.

The headline does sounds promising, but if you read the news release, you see they are announcing a lawsuit against a SINGLE COMPANY! There are dozens of companies participating in these scams. We do hope the message being sent will scare some others out of the business, but if prior such actions are any indication, we doubt it. Check back next week and we’ll have an update on the repercussions.

FTC to Announce Action Against Internet Marketers of Acai Berry Weight-Loss Pills and “Colon Cleansers”
Millions of consumers who are anxious to lose weight or prevent cancer have seen the ads: “…USE WITH CAUTION! Major weight loss in short periods of time may occur,” or “detoxify your organs,” and break down and remove “toxic waste matter which may have been stuck in the folds and wrinkles of your digestive system for years and years.” Come and learn from the victims themselves what the “free” trials of these products have cost, and how the Federal Trade Commission and the business community are taking action.

The customer is enticed into paying a minimal amount for shipping and handling costs, in a matter what is sold to them as a trial. In fact, unbeknownst to the consumer, they are signing up for a subscription to receive a regular shipment of the product at full price.

Naturally many customers signing up this deal were not interested in receiving regular acai shipments. Surprise turned to frustration as the customers realize they could not cancel the subscription. CCN made it very difficult to contact them by not answering e-mails and leaving callers on hold for over an hour. Often the only way out of this scam is to cancel credit card from which the Acai is being charged.

People taking advantage like this of the popularity of Acai as a health food should consider their cards marked. There is a legitimate market for Acai, and many legitimate distributors fulfilling legitimate orders. Scammers take note: you are not welcome here.

I’ve got a wonderful husband and three lovely kids; I love them all very much. Like any good mother keeping everyone healthy is my main priority, and if I’m honest I can use all the help I can get. I have been looking for the best kind of acai berry products on the market.  I am noticing that there are all kinds of different products.  Since I don’t know a whole lot about how important it is on the origin of the products, I am thinking that somebody should do a review on all of this.  I am in need of knowing if I need to buy acai pure, or I can simply get in the tablet form and be completely fine.  The last thing I want to do is pay for something that is not the best.  I really want to be educated on this.

I don’t know about you, but I sure am tired of seeing so many people harm themselves with the things that they eat and drink. When I first learned about nutraceuticals, I thought they were just a hoax. Great, another made up word for big industry.
