Ares – A Music Tax

  • 6 April 2010
ares a music tax

Canada might get music tax for downloads and this is making for some very unhappy people. If this tax does take place then the cost per track would go up and would possibly turn people to go to Ares filesharing programs. Canada is wanting to implement the tax to pay record labels for the illegal piracy that is taking place around the globe. This really does seem to be a catch 22, the tax would be implemented to help pay for some of the piracy taking place, but companies think that this would turn people to peer to peer filesharing programs instead.

Canada May Tax Music

In a bold move canada might get music tax for downloads. This is an attempt to compensate musicians for the gross amount of piracy happening around the globe. The small tax of 2.1 cents per track, or maybe as low as 1.5 cents per track for a complete album, has Apple up in arms. They are angry with this choice as they believe this will turn people to peer to peer filesharing programs because the cost of these tracks will have to go up due to the tax. This dilemma of piracy and filesharing will take a long time to sort out.
